A little bit about the names of my colors…I am always inspired by nature and the outdoor world.  Our home is decorated with natural decor, so it is not unusual that this carries over to my color inspirations.  Combine that with my long standing love affair with Portmeirion Botanic Garden dishes.  The dishes all feature a different flower and the latin name as well as the english translation.  I decided to do the same thing, only I am looking out our back door for ideas.  My colors are all flowers or trees that I have personally grown or native plants to Alaska.

A little peek at something that a few people know about already…

Yarn dyed by me.  I will have a handful of different kinds available in the next 3 weeks.  I feel like I have been waiting for so long to take this step.  The time has finally come.  I willl be selling the yarn in my etsy shop (by the way, have you been there lately?   I have candy…just sayin’.) and (hopefully) in yarn shops in Alaska.

This Christmas, we went to Christmas Mountain Village in the Wisconsin Dells for the week of Christmas.  It was nice to get away from everything and just be together.  We didn’t do anything too spectacular or earth-shattering.  Mostly just hung out, did a little bit of sledding, some touristy stuff, playing with new toys in front of the fireplace, and plain old relaxing.

And that is exactly what I did on Christmas Night.

A fine Christmas Night

A bottle of Merlot, a cup of water in my new (Etsy!) mug from my In-Law’s, a fire in the fireplace, loved ones gathered around the table working on a gingerbread house, and a new knitting project on the needles using Peace Fleece yarn.

It was a wonderful night.

Peace.

No, not the kind you eat.  The kind I play with.  I have been working on my spinning skills lately, getting prepared for a custom order from my shop that has me incredibly excited… So, I am working on single ply yarns lately.  I adore single ply.  I love the smoothness of it, the simple twist of it.

Conn modeling single ply “Lime in the Coconut” from my shop.  I am working on a hat using this yarn and loving the way it is knitting up.  I have just a little more decreasing to do before I can show a picture of it.  The thing with single ply hand spun yarn is the self-striping!  Every row that I knit, I am amazed with how the striping is working out.  So neat!

And, I got to play with dyes this weekend.  Working on the custom order and a teensy bit of autumn inspiration to go in the shop later this week.

Peace.

Fist things first, I have updated my shop with a few new things…a custom spinning service, and a new SALE hand spun yarn.  I am spinning my little heart out, working on getting examples up of how some of my colorways spin up.  Then it will be getting them knit up so you can see how they look when knit.

Now, for the giveaway…

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.  As many of you know, breast cancer has touched my life in ways I never thought possible.  I lost my Mom (that is her up on the very top on the left sidebar) 25 months ago to breast cancer.  My Grandma and my Great Aunt are breast cancer survivors.

This year, I have a special edition colorway in honor of breast cancer awareness month.  It is called “Second Base“.  Right now I only have the roving in my shop (which I would love to spin up for you!) because I am giving away one full skein of my handspun yarn to one lucky reader!  I do have another giveaway in the works for spinners out there, so stay tuned!
