Here I am, being all kinds of accountable.  My weekly check in post.  My co-conspirator, Amy, has started a new blog.  Go check it out:  The Stash Pit.  I think that her organizational skills are crazy impressive.  Scroll down and you will see.  And congratulate her on their awesome new purchase while you are there.

So, where were we?  Oh yeah.  Catching up.  Here goes…

(as posted here)

May Craft Challenge Goals:

  • (gift) Baby Blanket – Using Knit Picks Comfy worsted yarn.  Crocheted.  Lots of babies being born this fall, they all need handmade presents.

Crocheting away...

Plugging along slowly.  I aim for one row a night.  136 stitches per row of double crochet.  Mind numbingly slow.  But faster than knitting it for sure!

  • (gift) Cowl – Using free pattern found on Ravelry (sorry, can’t link to it because the potential recipient is a knitter).  Using my hand dyed yarn. {DONE- Yeah!!}

Cowl in progress
And taking a little swim before blocking it to within an inch of its life…Taking a swimmy-swim

  • (gift) Baby Kicking Sack – Using stashed Socks That Rock yarn and a pattern that I am working out in my head.

Great progress

Hmm, yeah.  This is as far as I have gotten with this one.  The month is still young, right?

  • (for me) Freyja Sweater KAL – Get started on my Freyja sweater using Frog Tree Alpaca yarn that is waiting patiently.  This is going to be a KAL with my friend, Alli.  She will blow me out of the water with her smoking needles.  I am thinking that she will be done in just a couple of weeks.  It might take me a couple of months.

Here is the picture from the magazine…

What I aspire to...

My yarn colors.  Obviously I have issues with deviating too much from the original.
I don't deviate much

The yarn specs.  Also…this will be, to date, my most expensive sweater.  Shhh, don’t tell the husband!
cha-ching $$

Our birth center is having a fundraising auction this weekend so I decided to donate a few things to help them out.

**None of this counts toward my May Craft Challenge since I technically completed them in April**

Giving back

A skein of my handspun 2 ply 100% Merino (19 micron) in the “Restorative Waters” colorway 110 yards.  There are quite a few knitters in the birth center’s circle, so I hope that this is well loved.
Giving back

A newborn baby kicking sack.  I used the Sheepy Sack pattern (free) and it was super easy and quick.  I plan on doing more of these, just a little bit differently (as I did here).  I used my own hand dyed 100% wool yarn in the unnamed colorway (trying to be gender neutral).  A kicking sack is worn instead of pants for naps.  It can be lanolized and used with cloth diapers just like longies.
Lose the i-cord

Next time I make it, I won’t do an i-cord.

1.  Because I hate making i-cord.

2.  Because I think that the waist (which is actually the bottom if you do it as the pattern is written) is awesome as is.
Whipped Cream & Nonpareils FTW

If I didn’t tempt you enough with the last post of Sprinkles cupcakes, here is a little bit of yum.  Because everything is better with fresh whipped cream and nonpareils.  Even chocolate cake that you make in the microwave that is so freaking sweet that you have to share it with at least 2 or 3 other people.  This is my “oh crud, I really want dessert, but didn’t make anything” recipe.  I usually add in a small handful of chocolate chips before nuking.

Our weather is getting a little better every day.  Yesterday it was in the 40′s and nice and sunny.  Finally.  I took advantage of the beautiful day and did lots of yard work.

And later, did a little bit of relaxing with a drink and some knitting while the boys played.

End of the day

Pardon the dust…I am working on changing things up here a little bit.  You will see things come and go from the sidebar and appearances change – all part of a bigger plan.

Meanwhile, I have lots of knitting to show you.  Unfortunately, not my Garter Yoke Cardigan.  I took a great self portrait using my old camera and when I went to put my old memory card into my new camera, I deleted the photos, forgetting that I hadn’t saved that particular series.  Darn.  Will have to have DH help me out with a new photoshoot.

Oh, and did you know that we just got back from a 10 day vacation to Hawai’i?  Without kids…!  Let’s just take a break for a minute, shall we?

Sunset Beach, Oahu

Sunset Beach, North Shore of Oahu.  Pretty much the only part of Oahu that I liked.  Waikiki and Honolulu are so not me.  I am a Big Island girl.  At least so far.

Back to the knitting.

Autumn's Multnomah

Multnomah mini shawl (free pattern)

Knitted for DH’s Aunt

Noro Silk Garden Sock

Size 4 Addi Turbo Lace Needles

So, yeah.  This pattern was tricksy for me.  I made it harder than it was and worked the increase section to 266 stitches.  Why?  Well because I have a problem reading and remembering numbers.  I also went up a needle size because I tend to be a tight knitter.  It all worked out ok, I just did fewer repeats of the feather and fan border.  My first mini shawl, I can see more of these in my future.

A hat inside? Why, yes, in Alaska!

Special Snowflake

Another first.  My first colorwork project.  Super addicting.  I had hopes of it fitting the toddler, with even bigger hopes of making us all matchy matchy family hats for the winter.  It turned out to be too big for the toddler, but too small for my giant nugget, or DH’s almost as large head.  So, it went to my friend, Estrella.  Owner of a petite cranium.  I do still plan on doing a family matchy-matchy hat theme this year, just will make some basic changes to this pattern (which is already great).  Stay tuned.

Norwegian Star Earflap Hat (free pattern)

Misc. small amounts of Knit Picks Wool of the Andes

Addi Turbos – unknown size.

Woosh!

One last picture of Sunset Beach, North Shore, Oahu. For good measure.

My shop is open again (<<click here)!  Tomorrow, I will be adding a couple skeins of new handspun yarn, as well as new fiber dyed in new colors.  So exciting!  I can’t wait to share it with you!

What I am knitting:

Matchy matchy

Or, actually, finishing up.  Proper pictures to come soon.

What I am spinning:

On the wheel now

“Sweet Baby Boy” superwash supersquish merino wool, hand dyed by me.  Will end up being 2-ply and about worsted weight.  Hope to get close to 185 yards when done.

What I am reading:

Bedside reading

Straight from the nightstand.

Stardust – Neil Gaiman & Charles Vess

The Yeast Connection – William Crook (yeah, still.  kinda boring at times)

Geisha – Liza Dalby

The World’s Most Notorious Women – Random.  Just because I need a little dose of scandal every now and then.

What I am eating:

Currently, home made popcorn.  At 10:15 am.  I adore popcorn and can eat it day and night, every day.  Usually make it every other day.

What I am wanting:

  • To knit this.  I have an extra ball of Kidsilk Haze in “Heavenly” left from Estrella’s Wisp.  Just need to find beads.
  • This beautiful necklace is on sale right now.  Originally $59, it is now $44.  Plus, if  you use the code, “SpringForward”, you will get an additional 15% off.  I am thinking I want mine extra long.  And since I just had a birthday, I should order one.
  • To buy some of this.  I will be in the proximity of a LUSH shop in the next week.  I woke up on Tuesday and noticed at least a dozen new stark white hairs on my head.  Great way to start a birthday.  I don’t use normal hair dyes (because of nasty chemicals) and haven’t used Henna in a few years…time to see if it works on these bright whites.
